We received the following note from Burns Lake, BC, where we recently held two concerts:

10.16.2007

Allan: Thanks again to you and all the guys in the group for your performances in Burns Lake near the end of September (22nd and 23rd). I thought you'd like to know there was quite a bit of coverage in the local paper, the Lakes District News - a colour photo the Wednesday after the performances, and an article in old-timer Hugh Neave's column the following week. Hugh wrote in part:

"What a wonderful way to start the season out with the high class entertainment the LD Arts Council and the Rod and Gun provided for us. What a thrill it was to hear (The Emeralds) play and sing so many of the old songs we used to enjoy, now a long time ago. What impressed so many was how relaxed this band was and how they made us all enjoy their music and singing. It was the kind of afternoon you were sorry when it ended, as we all wished it would go on and on. Many of these old songs brought back the good old days when lots of us used to play and sing so many of the songs they played and sang. Although our younger generation enjoy much different music I did notice some younger folk taking it all in and also enjoying it."

And then there was a paid advertisement from one of the couples who went to the Saturday dance and Sunday concert, saying in part: "Dancing to the Emeralds provided a fabulous magical night and a dream come true. To top it all off, an Emeralds concert in the high school where the acoustics are better gave us all a deep appreciation for the superb talent of these gentlemen."

Let me know if you would like copies of this stuff. And again, many thanks for two great performances and great days! Cheers!

The Emeralds are delighted to announce they are now performing with the latest technology in sound reinforcement equipment from Bose Corporation. The band has abandoned their traditional speaker-on-a-tripod approach they used for many years in favour of a portable Line Array system called the L1.

Saxophonist and the group's sound technician, Wally Petruk, says, "We have never sounded better. We now can hear each other much more clearly on stage than with the old front-of-house and separate monitor speaker systems, and that lets us tighten up the harmonies."

Allan Broder ( Leader / Manager) also plays sax and is very happy with their new Bose system. "Our audiences are commenting on our great sound without even being prompted. There is a noticeable improvement in the quality and coverage produced by the L1's and our audience can plainly hear it. It feels great as a musician to know that our true sound is now being heard by everyone attending our events."

All members of the band appreciate the fact that the L1's are much easier to move from place to place than their old system. Plus it's almost invisible on stage. "Most people listening to us have no idea that our great sound comes from those slim cylinders standing just behind us", says Terry Kole, lead guitar and vocalist. "It's a radical new approach to professional sound that certainly works for us."

Doc Olenic, keyboards and vocals, and Don Remeika, drums and vocals, make it unanimous. "I used to sit in the worst seat in the house", says Don. "Now I can really hear what the other guys are playing. It's great." And Doc, who was a little reluctant to get rid of his private stack of sound gear says, "I have to admit, we all sound better. Our voices are reproduced with a naturalness I haven't heard before, and my keyboards have really opened up."

For further comments by The Emeralds on the Bose L1's and to find out more on this amazing system, contact Jason Broder, Promotion and Sales Director, at emeralds@telusplanet.net
